Birthright Birthright believes it is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth andthe right of every infant to be born. Birthright offers free, confidential serviceswhich include pregnancy testing. You can volunteer one or two days aweek. Volunteers will be trained to work in the office. Gabriel Project This ministry helps women who are pregnant. With Christian presence and friendship, our parish volunteers walk with women and support them with the many decisions they will make during their pregnancies. Our volunteers also assist the mother in her spiritual growth by their presence, prayers, and invitation to join us here for Mass. Good Neighbor: Funeral Reception This ministry gathers and serves food to families and friends following funerals. You can serve by dropping off food and by assisting in setting up, serving, and cleaning up following the meal. This is a wonderful way to show those who are grieving our love and support. Homebound Ministry These volunteers visit those in need usually once a week, offering a visit, prayers, and Holy Communion in their home or at the nursing facility. Prime Timers Senior activities are for our young at heart, ages 55 and up! The third Thursday of each month, the group meets for cards/games and a $5.00 catered lunch. SOS - Sandwiches on Sundays for the Homeless Sandwiches on Sundays for the Homeless makes 100 lunches on the weekend to distribute to the homeless living in the downtown area. Scarves for the Homeless Beginning in August and ending early December, parish members knit or crochet scarves for the men and women living on the streets of downtown Houston. Society of St. Vincent de Paul An organization of Catholic lay volunteers ministering to the poor in the Spring Branch area, our parish volunteers make home visits to discern theneeds of individuals and families. We help with rent, utility bills, transportation/Metro, food, and recommend them to additional local agencies willingto help. English and Spanish speaking volunteers are needed to make homevisits and to work in our office Monday-Saturday. The office is located at 911Bunker Hill in the Bishop Rizzotto building. The Gathering Place The Gathering Place at St. Cecilia invites families who are caring for a love done with memory loss to a free program held monthly. It is a stimulating, loving and fun environment where volunteers offer interactive and affirming activities designed for members of the congregation and community who suffer with memory loss. The Gathering Place offers 3 1/2 hours of respite from the challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia while they enjoy games, crafts, entertainment, lunch, and other fun activities. Caregivers may choose to use this opportunity for respite, or may opt to participate along with their care partner.
