The Sacrament of Baptism is a great celebration that initiates each person into the Christian family and a life of Faith. It is also is a great opportunity for the Church to welcome her littlest ones and support parents and godparents in raising their children in the Catholic faith.
The Church encourages parents and godparents to understand this commitment and its implications. Our Baptism Preparation program involves 3 Steps. First, parents take an online baptism class, Belonging, which has a cost of $11.95 (Step 1). Next, parents attend an in-person Baptism Welcoming Session at St. Cecilia (Step 2). Finally, parents select a baptism date (Step 3).
Parents or godparents who have attended a Baptism prep program in the last 3 years can skip Step 1 with proof of attendance. Everyone must attend a Baptism Welcoming Session, Step 2.
Please note that due to the high numbers of children baptized in our large and vibrant community, St. Cecilia does group baptisms as the norm.
Requirements for godparents: Your role is essential in the life of your godchild, therefore we ask that you also take the online course parents take in Step 1. If you live in the Houston area, please also attend the Baptism Welcoming Session with the parents.
Godparents are to be role models of faith to the child and are therefore baptized practicing Catholics in good standing, this includes marriage in the Catholic Church for Catholic couples and chaste living for singles. More information about godparents is provided at the Baptism Welcoming Session.
Due to limited resources, we only baptize children for registered parishioners and those who live within our parish boundaries. Our parish includes the following zip codes: 77024, 77042, 77043, 77055, 77063, 77079, 77080. Non-parishioners are encouraged to seek baptism for your children at your closest Catholic parish and where you intend to raise your child in the faith.
